Birthday Lunch

Yesterday was my birthday.  I ate way too much at both lunch and dinner.  Oh well.  One day a year is not a huge deal.

At the top left is a butternut squash soup.  I thought it was alright, but apparently later batches were too salty.  The main plate has a bunch of curry, but it was just OK, I don't even think I ate it all.

They had some tomato and mushroom pizza, so I had two small pieces of that.

I also had some of the Brussels sprouts.

And a piece of chocolate cake, since it was my birthday.

Cheese-Filled Lunch And A Sundae

For lunch today, I had the broccoli and cheese soup, a little bit of fancy macaroni and cheese, and a big salad with lettuce, tomato, broccoli, onion, garbanzo beans, mushrooms, corn, and a sesame ginger dressing.

I felt it was light enough that I could have a very small sundae. This is peach cobbler ice cream with real caramel and some bananas.

The Sampler

Lunch at work on Friday was a sampling of a bunch of different things that sounded good to me. On my plate are: a vegan tofu and vegetable skewer, some flatbread, some eggplant korma (just above the flatbread), some curried potatoes, and some grilled asparagus. In the bowl is some potato and goat cheese soup. Yum!

Even after all of that (which wasn't really all that much), I was still a little hungry. Instead of hitting up something super caloric, I decided for a bunch of veggies, after learning that the salad bar now has sprouts. The dressing is some sort of Asian sesame something or other. But I've got lettuce, corn, tomatoes, onion, sprouts, and broccoli!

I still wanted something a little sweet, so I got a tiny piece of coffee cake, since it had some sort of filling that I hadn't seen before.

A Brilliant Idea

We were over at our friends' house for dinner and games last night, and they had delicious tomato soup with tiny cut up grilled cheese sandwiches! Clearly this is the next evolution in tomato soup eating. The little sandwiches were so cute! I started out with a good bowlful.
And then went back for a little more.
I couldn't resist the huge loaf of delicious banana bread.
Or the sweet strawberries and little fresh tomatoes from their garden.
They also were evil and let me have some of these cute mini peanut butter cups. Posing behind them is their adorable daughter, who celebrated her first day of first grade!

Leftovers And Hot Buns

Dinner last night was more leftover Mexican stew. Yum! I just had one bowl.

Then I was still hungry so I heated up one of these taro buns I got from the Asian grocery.

Then I was still hungry, so I had a mushroom and bamboo shoot bun and a pumpkin bun too.

Mexican Stew

Dinner last night was some Mexican stew we had in our freezer from a long time ago. Fortunately it was still good! I had two bowls with a little sour cream and cheese.

To compensate for a day that was pretty rough on me, I also had some taro bubble tea.

Things That Start With 'S'

Unlike in college, where I did a humanities concentration in "Things that start with 'L'", tonight's dinner was composed of things that begin with 'S'. Soup, salad, and sandwiches. We had the trusty Fresh Express Asian Supreme salad again, and combined it with Harry's Organic Creamy Tomato Basil soup, which we found at Costco.

Nothing goes better with tomato soup than a grilled cheese sandwich. Fortunately, we had some bread I rescued from work last week, and some muenster cheese in the fridge. Muenster also happens to be the best cheese for grilled cheese.
I wouldn't be me if I didn't want to put tomatoes on everything, and grilled cheese is no exception. I sliced up a nice tomato, and ate everything I couldn't fit on the sandwich.

A little butter and some time on the griddle later, and I've got a tasty, colorful dinner. I ate the salad afterward.

Total calories were fewer than I expected:
  • 180 for my half of the salad
  • 333 for the bowl of soup
  • 430 for the sandwich (2 x 100 bread, 180 for 1.5 slices of cheese, 50 for the butter)
  • 25 for the tomato
All told, 968 calories.
